Michael Brewster has been awarded Student of the Month for his work on the Land Based Foundation course at the College’s Houghall Campus.
Michael, 19, from Murton joined the course in September, and despite at first being very unconfident and fearful, Michael has turned it around through his own determination and help from staff and his family he has settled in really well and become a model student on his course.
Helen Mitchell, Michael’s lecturer at Houghall said: “Michael was initially looked as if he didn’t want to be at college, he would clock watch and need constant reassurance as to when he would be going home.
“But through the support of his family and staff at college and his own determination, Michael is a model student, happy and sociable with a great sense of humour, he has settled really well.”
And this new found belief in Michael has shown through on his work at the College and is progressing well through the course.
Helen added:” Michael works hard in his written tasks and in putting together his portfolio.
“He always completes the tasks to an excellent standard and is presentable and conducts himself well around vocational areas.
“Michael has an excellent outlook to his work and progression in college despite having to overcome the several barriers to be able to attend the College.”
