Overview of the course: 

The Level 3 is a Technical Level Qualification for students wishing to specialise in the automotive sector as a motor vehicle diagnostic technician. Learners studying this qualification will receive specialist knowledge and skills, enabling them to go into employment or an advanced apprenticeship in vehicle maintenance and repair or progression to a higher education course. It will be taught by an Audi master technician and an experienced motor sport technician with more than 45 combined years of experience. The program will consist of all aspects of diagnostic and rectification of vehicle systems.

Entry requirements: 

Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Maintanence and Repair.

Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

• Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle mechanical and electrical faults on all vehicle systems.

• Routine vehicle maintenance

• Removal and replacement of vehicle units

• Hybrid systems

• Air condition

• Satellite navigation and ICE

How is the course assessed?: 

Online multiple choice tests and practical assessments in the vehicle workshop.

This qualification will prepare you to become a light vehicle service technician and work at an independent garage, a large manufacturer or even in your own business. These skills will ensure you working with minimum supervision, having a good record of safety and fault correction, and ensuring work meets the required standard. It will also prepare them to become a MOT tester.

Length of the course: 

1 Year, Full Time.

50% of the program delivered in a classroom environment. 50% in the workshop. Students will be required to carry out independent learning using IT resources made available to them.

Free if you are under the age of 19 on the 31st August 2019

Free if you are aged 19-23 on 31st August 2019 and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification – contact us to check your qualifications

Loan funded if you already have a full level 3 qualification or are aged 24 and over on 31st August 2019 - contact us to check your qualifications and for details of how to apply for an Adult Learner loan, which you won’t have to start repaying until you earn over £25,725 per annum.
