A group of keen Apprentices are gearing up to take part in the up and coming National Apprenticeship Week.

Preparations are well underway at East Durham College as the Apprentices get ready to take part in a series of activities and events as part of the Week, designed to celebrate and promote Apprenticeship.

National Apprenticeship Week, now in its firth year, will take place across England from Monday 6th February till Friday 10th February 2012.

On Monday 6th the East Durham College Apprentices will be hosting a pamper day for a group of Ripon-based 21 Engineer Regiment soldiers who have recently come back from a tour of Afghanistan.

The soldiers will receive various treatments at the College’s salon from Hair and Beauty Apprentices. Catering Apprentices will then prepare and serve a delicious three-course meal in the College’s Scene1 restaurant. To finish off the day the College’s fully trained physiotherapists have offered to give the solders a professional sports massage.

On Wednesday 8th a group of Horticulture Apprentices will visit St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham, where they will be helping out with maintenance work in the grounds of the Hospice that offers free care and support to people in North Durham with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Then on Thursday 9th the College’s Vice Principal for Business Development, Andrew Phillips, will spend a morning going ‘back to the floor’ when he will shadow a number of Apprentices at a local manufacturing company.

Finally a group of eight Equine Apprentices will volunteer and help out at the Cleveland Mounted Police Headquarters.
