New Rugby Coach Takes The Reins
East Durham College are delighted to announce a new head rugby coach for the start of the new academic year.
Craig Gilmour has joined the college to take over the rugby scholarship development programme on a full time basis.
And Craig is back to where it all started, as he also studied on the elite rugby scholarship course at East Durham College when he left school, playing alongside current England international David Wilson during his playing days at the college.
Since graduating Craig went on to represent his local side Horden RFC, as well as playing in the national league for West Hartlepool and captaining the Durham county side.
Craig’s coaching background has seen him work for many years as a part of Horden’s youth set up with players aged 13 to 19 years old.
And the team will be hoping to have another great season after some fantastic results last season, with the highlight being reaching their first ever national cup final.
Craig is looking forward to getting started with the team and can’t wait to help nurture the college’s young talent.
Craig said: “I am really proud to be able to take over this role at the college.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to come here and work with these young lads on a day to day basis and help them continue to become better rugby players.
“The college has a great set up here with fantastic sporting facilities across two campuses in Peterlee and in Durham.
“I hope my knowledge and expertise will help the team to progress forward and take the college’s scholarship programme to the next level.”
Curriculum Manager for Sport, Chris English said: “We are delighted to have Craig on board as Head Coach here at East Durham College.
“Craig has a wealth of knowledge in all areas of rugby coaching and I am sure he will be able to help take our students and the college’s rugby programme to the next level.”
The college currently runs Elite Sports Scholarship Programmes in Football, Rugby and Boxing.
