County Durham RFU and East Durham College are launching an exciting new girls’ rugby development training programme starting from next month.

The free sessions will run on the first Wednesday of every month starting on the 2nd April between 7pm and 8:30pm at the College’s Peterlee Campus.

Girls of all abilities in age groups u15s and u18s are welcome to come and join in the training sessions.

East Durham College Head Rugby Coach Gary Beck will lead the sessions along with extra coaching support from the new County Durham RFU coaches.

Gary said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for girls in the area, who are currently playing the game, to come along and learn some new techniques and improve the skills and knowledge they already have.

“But equally, girls who may not have tried playing rugby before are really welcome to come and give it a go and see what the sport is all about.

“We are aiming to help the girls enhance their all-round fitness and skills set; from ball handling and decision making to the principles of contact pre and post tackle.

“It’s also a great chance for the girls to meet other female players from across the region.”

Peter Taylor, the Women's Rugby Development Officer with the RFU for the region, added: “The exciting monthly development sessions at East Durham College will give the girls the opportunity to get regular activity and top quality coaching.

“It will also allow the new Durham RFU Girls u18s and u15s county coaches to work closely with the girls over the summer thus, ensuring that Durham is really offering the girls every opportunity to develop into our future stars.”
