Students at East Durham College are working through the night to make sure that their latest pantomime Sleeping Beauty is a massive success.
The production will be the third pantomime staged by Foundation Degree students at the College in Peterlee, studying Music and Performing Arts.
The popularity of the College pantomime brings with it added pressure, “The previous pantomimes were so successful, I’ve been working through the night to make sure this event is the best ever,” commented student Michael Coulson who is playing the heroic Prince Florimund.
All of the matinee performances are now sold out and the College have been really surprised and pleased by the huge demand for the evening performances too.
Lecturer Amanda Gregory has been delighted by the student performers’ dedication towards the success of the show. Amanda said: “I’ve seen new levels of professionalism and maturity from the cast and with it a very high standard of theatrical performance.
“It really demonstrates the quality and talent of the East Durham Area. The Creative Industries generate huge amounts of income for the country but as is demonstrated by our pantomimes they can also generate a lot of joy.”
The production is open to the public and takes place on 18th, 19th and 20th of January in The Lubetkin Theatre at East Durham College, Willerby Grove, Peterlee. Doors open at 6.45pm. Ticket prices are £7 for adults and £5 concessions.
