The East Durham College Peter Jones Enterprise Academy are preparing for the next round of the national negotiation challenge.

A group of talented East Durham College students have negotiated their way into the finals of a national negotiation competition and will now get to compete for top honours at Jaguar Land Rover’s HQ in Birmingham.

For the past month, Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students around the country have been brushing up on their negotiation skills and competing in the four-part challenge which aims to equip them with the negotiation skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the world of work.

And now The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in association with The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), have announced the six finalists in the CIPS Negotiation Challenge 2014 and the team from East Durham College were delighted to be amongst them.

The team from EDC will travel down to Jaguar HQ in Solihull, Birmingham on 6th March, where they will take on teams from Warwickshire College, Westminster Kingsway College, City College Coventry, Dudley College and Leicester College in an inter-team challenge activity and present their conclusions to an expert panel

The overall winners will receive a trophy, as well as gift vouchers and will be invited to attend the CIPS annual conference, held in London in October 2014.

Peter Jones Enterprise Academy course leader at EDC Jill Campbell has praised the students for the hard work they have put in during the tasks and hopes they can continue to impress in the final round.

Jill said: “This competition has really brought the best out of the students and has helped them to learn new skills.

“The students have worked really hard over the last few weeks on the tasks and it’s great to see them advance in the competition.

“I hope they can now go on to impress in the next set of challenges against some great competition from around the country.”

David Noble CIPS CEO added: “I’m delighted that so many students took part in this year’s Negotiation Challenge. I know that the CIPS judges and mentors have been very impressed with the high standard of knowledge, engagement and enthusiasm from all the students, so well done.

“Congratulations to the final six teams, I look forward to meeting you at Jaguar Land Rover in March where the competition really heats up.”
