Phyllis Barrow Wins Care Student Award

Phyllis Barrow has been selected for a Student Award for the Care section at East Durham College.
Phyllis, 37, from Seaham picked up the award at a ceremony on Monday evening held at the College’s Scene1 restaurant.
Phyllis first attended the College in 1994 studying a BTEC in Childcare, she then became a teaching assistant working in Seaham Trinity Primary School.
Phyllis has now returned to the College for two evenings a week studying a part time Foundation Degree in Childcare. She will then top that up to a full degree with a third year at the University of Sunderland then hopes to carry on to a PGCE in her aim to become a primary school teacher.
Lecturer in Care at East Durham College, Stephen Eltringham said: “Phyllis is a brilliant student. She works really hard on all modules of work and has a real interest for teaching.
“She is a valuable member of the group and is extremely supportive of the other around her.
“The level of work Phyllis has been handing in is always to a high standard, achieving first class grades in some modules of work.”
