Domestic Plumber and Heating Engineer
This qualification focuses on practical skills and knowledge. This ensures that when the learner
completes the qualification they will have gained practical experience and some expectation of some of the situations that they could face in a job role within the plumbing sector. It covers the fundamental knowledge and understanding of a broad range of plumbing competencies and has been developed in consultation with colleges, training associations and industry to ensure that it meets the needs of the building services sector. You'll learn how to install, test and maintain hot and cold pipework systems.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although Centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units selected within this qualification.
Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and any assessment requirements.
Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.
The fundamental knowledge and understanding required by someone aspiring to work in the plumbing industry. The qualification covers a wide range of subjects including: safe working practices, understanding environmental protection measures, understanding fundamental plumbing systems and understanding and demonstrating fundamental copper tube practical applications

1 Year Full Time.
This qualification has a theory and practical content. Therefore it is expected that it is delivered in a work-shop and a classroom environment

More important information about this course:
If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.
If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.
If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.
