Mr Ian Prescott, Principal and Chief Executive of East Durham College, has been invited by the Prime Minister to a reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate the achievements of some of the most improved Further Education Colleges in the country.
The reception, for college principals, will be an opportunity to recognise the enormous difference that Mr Prescott and other principals have made to the lives of so many young people, career switchers and to communities across the country.
Mr Prescott said: “I’m delighted that the Prime Minister is holding an event to acknowledge and celebrate the massive contribution that FE Colleges make to the UK economy. The sector is responsible for the development of 10s of thousands of people and has a vital role in helping to grow our economy, preparing the workforce to help business compete in the global marketplace.”
Downing Street added: “The Further Education sector turns around many thousands of lives each year and is playing a vital role in supporting local communities as we respond to the recession. In recent years your college is one of those which has improved the most.”
The reception will take place on Monday 15th March 2010.
