A sixth former studying graphic design has been getting creative to help out a local charity.
East Durham Sixth Form student Rachel Martin has created a standout cover for a booklet on tackling emotional and mental health for the If U Care Share Foundation based in Chester-Le-Street.
The Foundation came to the College with a design brief on creating the cover and Rachel has spent the last few months working alongside staff at the Foundation to come up with the perfect final design.
The booklet has now been printed and will be used in the Foundation’s education programmes across the region.
If U Care Share works in a number of schools based in County Durham as well as providing a support After Suicide Service. Thanks to Lottery funding they work throughout the North East. They also deliver workshops to Football Clubs via the Premier League and League Football Education.
East Durham College Art Lecturer Andrew Rolfe was happy to be able to help out a fantastic cause and believes this was also a great project for the College to be involved with.
Andrew said: “It was great to work in conjunction with the If U Care Share team on this project.
“It’s a fantastic cause and it was brilliant to be able to get students at the College to help them out with the design of this booklet.
“I would like to convey my thanks to the Foundation for giving us this opportunity, it’s been invaluable experience for the students involved, especially Rachel, if they go on to have a career in the graphic design industry.”
David Brown, Project Support Worker at the If U Care Share Foundation added “We are extremely grateful to Rachel [Martin] for her design work on our most recent evaluation booklet.
“This will be used in schools throughout the county with students who take part in our EAMH Development Programme, our thanks also goes to Andrew Rolfe and the staff at EDC for making this possible.
“We wish Rachel all the best in the future and that her career in design goes from strength-to-strength.”
