Rare Car Donated To Technical Academy Sold At Auction
A car that was donated to East Durham College’s Technical Academy and worked on by staff and students has sold for an incredible amount at auction.
The car, a BMW 850csi, kindly donated by Diane Borsberry from Trimdon Grange, to The Technical Academy’s Motor Vehicle department last summer, was valued by auctioneers, Tennants of Yorkshire at between £8,000 and £12,000.
But at auction last week the car eventually sold to Panos Roulias, a sales manager at a specialist prestige and performance car company in Luton, for a whopping £17,500.
Mr Roulias is now going to undertake further restoration work on the car and plans to visit The Technical Academy with it once his work is completed.
The money received by the college from the sale of the car will now go back into the motor vehicle department at The Technical Academy to fund further projects for students to work on.
Rob Hutchinson, centre manager at The Technical Academy, admitted he was shocked to see the car go for such a high price, but was delighted to see it bought by a real BMW enthusiast.
Rob said: “We had a fantastic day at Tennants for the auction last weekend.
“The motor vehicle department had done a great job to make sure the car is back to its original standard, making sure it was in a great condition.
“We were hoping to get a decent value back from the car as we knew it was an extremely rare vehicle, but none of us were expecting the final total we received.
“It was great to meet Panos and I am really happy to see such a fantastic car go to a real enthusiast.
“We can’t wait to welcome Panos to The Technical Academy with the car once he has completed his work on the vehicle.”
