East Durham College is delighted to report their highest number of students going on to study at university in over 15 years.

Earlier this year the College reported a record number of students applying for places in higher education, in excess of 200 students. And despite the increased pressure on the number of places available at university following cuts in the sector, this has resulted in over 130 students getting places.

As well as students going on to study at Sunderland, Teesside and Northumbria universities, they have also gone further afield - including Edinburgh Napier, Harper Adams, Loughborough and Abertystwth to name but a few.

Fred Harrison, Assistant Principal, said: “Each of these places filled by a student from East Durham College represents a potentially life changing opportunity.

“We are very focused in trying to encouraging our students to aim higher and apply for places at university and are therefore thrilled that so many managed to get a place despite the cap in the number of places available.

“We wish everyone the best as they take up their place and hope this will lead to them fulfilling their career ambitions.”
