Today East Durham College’s Peterlee campus held the semi-finals of the Northeast Inter-college Hair & Beauty Competitions 2015.

Eight colleges took part with Bishop Auckland College, Darlington College, East Durham College, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Middlesbrough College, New College Durham, Newcastle College and Redcar & Cleveland College all bringing students along to put their skills to the test.

Two competitions ran on the day with a 1940s themed beauty skills competition and an evening elegance hairdressing skills competition.

A top class panel of judges presided over the day with Bethany Firth from Seraph Hair and Beauty, Fiona Coombes from Sheer Indulgence and Phil and Sam Unsworth from the award winning Guappo Hair Design.

On the day Helen Pritchard from Darlington College and Natalie Sairns from Bishop Auckland College came out on top in the beauty competition, whilst Becky Skinner from Hartlepool College and East Durham College’s Laura Dovaston were announced as the winner of the hair competition.

The four students will now go onto the grand final at Newcastle College in April.

East Durham College hairdressing lecturer and competition organiser Angela Johnston thanked all the colleges and judges for taking part and praised the level of talent on show.

Angela said: “The day was a huge success and I want to thank all the staff, judges and students for coming along and making it happen.

“Everyone involved had a great day and the level of both hair and beauty skills on show was fantastic, both competitions were so tight, we have some real talent coming through these colleges in the north east which is brilliant for the area.”
