Horticulturalists got more than they bargained for at the Gateshead Summer Flower Show when they were greeted with an array of reptiles.

Staff from East Durham College had on display a Boa constrictor snake and a bearded dragon.

Crowds were also wowed with a ferret and a baby tortoise.

Rae Beckwith, Gateshead Flower Show Referee said: “The college has been fantastic and the children have loved seeing the reptiles.

“It is great to have extra things on show as well as the flowers. It has been a real crowd pleaser.”

The Gateshead Summer Flower Show ran until Sunday 29 July.
