Restaurant Back In Action As New Recruits Begin

East Durham College is pleased to announce its fabulous bistro style restaurant, Scene1, is once again taking bookings for lunch and evening meals.
Now that the new academic year is once again in full swing Scene1, based in the College’s Peterlee Campus, on Willerby Grove, will be open Tuesday-Friday lunchtimes (12pm-2pm) as well as Tuesday evening (6pm-9pm) and Thursday evening (7pm-9pm).
Scene1 will offer business lunches as well as their new express lunch service for those will a little less time.
Sharon Littler, Programme Leader for Hospitality & Catering, said: “The restaurant is a really important aspect of the training our students receive. It ensures they get real live experience of serving and cooking for real paying customers.
“It’s great when the restaurant is full as it puts the students under real pressure and teaches them how to cope with it - and that’s vital experience in this industry.”
The student team are led by award winning Head Chef Joe Keenan who also works as the Head Chef at the Newcastle Falcons and used to own and run his own restaurant, the Centurion Inn at Langley Park in Durham.
The restaurant has a fully licensed bar and is a beautiful modern styled eatery. All the food is freshly prepared and made on the day, using high quality local fresh produce.
