East Durham College student Wendy Robson has recently won the December 2010 Student of the Month Awards for Care.
Wendy Robson, aged 41 from Peterlee, is on the second year of a Foundation Degree in Education & Care. She is successfully juggling the demanding part-time course while she works as a full time nursery nurse at Dene House Children’s Centre in Peterlee.
Wendy has a long and successful history of studying at the College. She first came to the College to do her A Levels after leaving school, she then came back in 2000 to complete an HNC in Business and then in 2007 to study on the Cache Level 3 Teaching Assistant course.
Wendy, who is also a mum to 10 year old Ethan, said “I just love to keep pushing myself. I get bored if I’m not learning new things. Once I finish the Foundation Degree I’m hoping to enrol on a Cache Level 3 SENCO course so I can gain Early Years Special Educational Needs Co‑ordinator status. I would then like to move into teaching or lecturing.”
Jan Grinstead, Head of Care, said: “Wendy is a real susses story at the College. She’s a very committed and highly motivated learner.
“She’s fantastic at the research aspect of the course. It’s always highly relevant and creates much discussion between her class members and lecturers. Some of it even helps me to keep up to date with the latest studies and findings in the sector.
“Wendy really has a great ability to think outside the box and view things for a range angles before coming to a relevant conclusion, she’s very deserving of this award.”
