Rugby Duo To Play For England Colleges

Two talented students from East Durham College are celebrating following their success at the recent trials for the England College’s RFU team.

Sean Brown, aged 17 from Prudhoe, and Joe Arrowsmith, aged 18 from Ryhope, were selected for the England College’s team which plays at under 19s level.

Sean, who plays on the winger, and Joe, a flanker, took part in the trials at Gloucestershire University last week and they will now get to represent England College’s next year against Leicester Tigers u19s and go on tour with the England team to Portugal.

Sean also plays for Ryton RFC and Joe represents Sunderland RFC.

Head Rugby Coach at East Durham College Liam Gumbrill said: “This is the first time the College has had two players make it all the way through to the England College’s team.

“I’m made up for the lads, it’s a fantastic opportunity for them and is sure to benefit our elite squad as a whole.”

The College operates a special sports scholarships for talented young rugby players and footballers. To enrol on the programme you will need to be aged 16 or 17 on or before 1st September 2012. You will need to be county standard or above; selection is via a trial. You will also need to get five GCSEs at grade C or above.
