From September 2016, students will be able to study at the college towards an exciting career in computer programming or networking, with two brand new level 3 BTEC courses on offer at the Academy along with a host of other exciting benefits.
Students joining the Coding Academy will receive unlimited access to the Academy Business Mentorship Forum, membership to East Durham Homes digital champions’ programme, the use of state-of-the-art hardware and software, monthly talks from industry experts and a complimentary external hard drive for storing files and resources.
Jill Tones, programme area leader for ICT and Business, at East Durham College, is excited by the launch of the new Academy, as part of the college’s expanded IT offer, and believes it offers a great opportunity for young people to pursue an exciting career in this in-demand area.
Jill said: “This is an exciting new venture for us. Career opportunities for people with these sort of skills are really growing around the country and we want to get behind this and offer local students in the north east the chance to specialise in programming or networking.
“Computer coding and networking is increasingly being taught in schools around the region and we want to give students the opportunity to be able to continue to progress those skills by coming and studying at the Academy.
“We have a great set-up here with highly-skilled lecturers to teach the courses, and with loads of extra benefits the Academy is a fantastic way to help students along the road to an exciting career in this sector.”
