East Durham College student Jamie Lupton recently won the Sport Award at the College’s June Student Awards ceremony.
Jamie, along with 7 other students from different course areas at the College, was presented with his achievement certificate and prize by Interim Principal Eugene McCrossan.
Jamie, 19, from Hartlepool, is studying on a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport (Exercise and Fitness).
Lecturer Craig Shields said: “The progress Jamie has made throughout his time here at the College deserves some recognition. He started off on a Level 1 Sport course 2 years ago and stumbled his way through to Level 2, where his performance improved slightly, but again Jamie seemed to struggle his way to the end having problems with both attendance and punctuality.
“He was given a trial on the Level 3 course this year and the rest is history. He has matured and developed a positive attitude to work, improving his attendance and in particular the quality of his work. He also recently received a special mention for his performance at a voluntary primary school sports event. Jamie will be returning to complete his extended diploma in sport next year.”
