Still Time To Grab Important GCSEs

Mon, 2001-10-01 01:00

If you just missed out on the GCSE grades you wanted you still have time to make up for them at East Durham College.

Within the newly launched East Durham Sixth Form, the Pre A Level Programme aims to give students who just missed out on GCSEs at grade C, the opportunity to undertake five GCSEs in a year.

Jacqui Lee, Head of ED6, explains: “The Pre A Level course is focused on helping students gain those all important five GCSEs at grade C or above, which has become a benchmark achievement for young people to progress on to a number of courses and institutions.”

The programme takes in three key areas from GCSE level, Maths, English and Biology as well as letting students choose another two areas of study from Psychology, Sociology and Media Studies.

Jacqui added: “Students will study compulsory English, biology and Maths GCSEs, which are really important qualifications if you hope to eventually go on to university - and many employers also think they are important when looking for new staff. In fact, employers often look at an applicant’s GCSE results even if they have subsequently achieved A Levels and a degree.”

If students successfully complete the course East Durham Sixth Form will guarantee their place on one of its A Level programmes or another Level 3 qualification within the college starting in September 2013.

The Pre A Level Programme is still available for enrolment until Friday September 21

Candidates for the Pre A Level course must have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade D. For more details please call 0191 518 8222 or log on to www.ed6.ac.uk
