After the summer announcement of the new link up with Gateshead’s Bill Quay Farm, East Durham College is happy to announce that there is still time to enrol on their new Animal Care courses in Gateshead.

The new connection with the Tyneside site will see East Durham College run courses in Animal Care from this month.

The College will initially run a full time Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care at the site and are looking to expand into other course areas such as Floristry and Environmental Conservation.

With this new partnership, East Durham College is hoping to give students from a wider catchment area an opportunity to learn on courses that are usually taught from its 450 acre land based college at the Houghall Campus in Durham.

Their will be one last enrolment day taking place between 10am and 12pm on Saturday 21st September at Bill Quay Farm in Gateshead.

A number of Animal Care lecturers from East Durham College will be on site on the day to answer any of your questions about the course and to help you enrol if you would like to join.

Jane Pringle, Head of Houghall, is excited by the new partnership and believes it can highlight the courses taught at Houghall and bring a unique learner experience to the Newcastle and Gateshead area.

Jane said: “This is a really exciting new venture for East Durham College, the Houghall Campus and Bill Quay Farm.

“We believe the partnership with the farm will help us showcase the outstanding work we do with learners at Houghall and bring a whole new range of exciting courses to an inner city area of the north east.

Craig Bankhead, Transition Manager at Bill Quay Farm added: “Here at Bill Quay Community Farm, we're really excited to be working in partnership with East Durham College. We believe that our facilities and livestock provide a fantastic opportunity for students undertaking the new animal care course.”
