East Durham College student Kirsty Corbally recently won the Apprenticeship Award at the College’s November Student Awards ceremony.
Kirsty, aged 18 from Horden, is studying on a Pre-Apprenticeship course.
Her lecturer Joy Shipley said: “Kirsty’s work ethic is outstanding and she always completes tasks well in advance of any deadlines. Her thirst for learning shines out and, although she had no formal schooling, she has excelled in her skills by always having a go and giving 100 percent.
Despite Kirsty suffering at the hands of bullies when she was younger and having to drop out of main stream education she has proven that self belief and hard work prevails.
Joy added: “Kirsty is a valuable member of the group and always overcomes any barriers and obstacles.
“She thrives on challenges and is hence achieving her goals and even though her family don’t live in this area she has always got a smile on her face and has a can do attitude. Well done Kirsty.”
