East Durham College student Samantha Taylor recently won the Business Award at the College’s November Student Awards ceremony.
Samantha, aged 18 from Trimdon Grange, is studying on a BTEC Diploma in Business Level 2 course.
Her lecturer Louise Johnson said: “Samantha was originally enrolled on a Level 1 Business Skills course which did not run, so was offered the Level 2 as a trial to see if it was the right course for her.
Louise Johnson said: “Sammie has shown since September that not only is she capable of the Level 2 qualification but is excelling in her assignments and has already passed the first unit before the deadline!
“Every task that she is given, she undertakes with enthusiasm and takes a genuine interest in the topic, usually with her hand up first to answer every question in class.”
Samantha has also shown an aptitude for enterprise and is currently preparing for the Christmas Enterprise Challenge which she says she is enjoying.
Louise added: “I’m delighted with Sammie’s attitude and commitment since she joined and am really proud to put her forward for this student award.
“She always takes an active part in group activities and her knowledge of the subject is very good. Sammie demonstrates good qualities that the rest of the group could take on-board and she is certainly one for all of us to be inspired by.”
