Students Get Set for Christmas Panto

Students at East Durham College in Peterlee are getting ready to take to the stage once again with their annual Christmas pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.

And to help promote this year’s panto the students have donned their costumes to help create a massive poster which has gone on display in the town.

The nine students are featured on a 48-sheet poster at a JCDecaux site next to Asda and Macdonald’s in Peterlee town centre.

This will be the fourth pantomime staged by the Music and Performing Arts students at the College in Peterlee. And despite some slight nerves the students can’t wait to get out on stage and show off their talents in the Christmas spectacular.

College student, Nikki Alderton, aged 19, from Peterlee said: “It is so exciting to be involved in this pantomime. As part of our course we have to create a production from scratch and we chose this year to do Jack and the Beanstalk.

“In this pantomime I play the part of Fairy Flora. The show has music, dance and humour and I am sure anyone who comes to see it will have a tremendous time.

“It was great fun posing for the shot to create the poster and I can’t believe we are all on a huge poster outside McDonald’s.”

Curriculum leader Amanda Gregory has been delighted by the student performers’ dedication towards rehearsals and can’t wait to see the students perform for the public.

Amanda said: “I’ve seen new levels of professionalism and maturity from the cast and also a very high standard of theatrical performance, the cast can’t wait to put the show.

“We have some great talent here at East Durham College. The creative industries generate huge amounts of income for the country but as is demonstrated by our pantomimes they can also generate a lot of joy.”

The production is open to the public and takes place on Wednesday 23th, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of January, although Thursday’s performance is already sold out.

Jack and the Beanstalk will be held in The Lubetkin Theatre at East Durham College, Willerby Grove, Peterlee.

Doors open at 6.30pm, show time is at 7pm. Tickets are priced at only £7 per person.
