A team of college catering students and staff held a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to help raise money for a leading children’s charity.

The catering team at East Durham College, in Peterlee, organised the Alice in Wonderland-themed event in the College’s restaurant Scene 1, to raise money for Barnardos.

The students from entry level, including school vocational students, to level 3 planned and organised every aspect of the event. From the cooking and baking to the costumes and decor.

Adam Jordon, 20, from Trimdon Station, who is a level 3 hospitality student, used plants from the College’s Houghall Campus to create stunning themed features to help dress the room.

Sharon Littler, Catering and Hospitality Programme Leader at the College, said:

“It was a great event! Students have worked so hard and really got into the spirit of things, especially with the costumes!

“Planning the event brought the whole department together, and we have raised a grand total of £333.63 for Barnardos; the students are very pleased it is going to a great cause helping children in our area.”

Joanne Dixon, Sessional Project Worker at Barnardos, who attended the event, added: “It’s really wonderful that the college decided to hold this event in aid of our charity, every penny helps and we are very thankful.”
