The Mayor of Peterlee recently visited a group of college music students to ask for their help to organise a music event in the aid of charity.

The Mayor of Peterlee, Councillor John Hardy, visited East Durham College’s Peterlee Campus to discuss ideas for the fundraising event with the students.

Councillor John Hardy said: “The aim of the event is to raise money for The Mayor of Peterlee’s Fund; the students have lot of ideas and great talent to showcase.

“I am extremely proud and privileged to be Mayor of Peterlee and hope we can raise as much money for the fund as possible.”

The money raised from the event will go to The Mayor of Peterlee’s Fund which supports: Help for Heroes, Macmillan Nurses and Hartlepool Hospice - along with a number of other local youth charities.

The students shared their ideas about what music to play, how to raise money and what they could do to suit different target audiences.

College student Nathan Harbottle, age 17 from Blackhall, added: “I’m very excited about the event. It’s great that we are taking part in it and raising money for charity. Also I think that this will be a good practical learning experience and help me in different parts of my course.”

The event date and location are to be confirmed.
