A team of Hair and Beauty Therapy students are busy preparing to defend their title of ‘Best College’ in the North East.
The students from East Durham College will once again compete at the annual North East Regional Heats of the prestigious Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Competition.
The highly competitive event will take place on Monday 6th February at the Federation Brewery in Gateshead, where the group of over 40 East Durham College students will battle it out against hundreds of other students from nine other colleges from across the region.
The teams will compete in 10 different competition categories, with the top three winning a place at the National AHT finals in Blackpool. The categories range from face & body painting and classic 1940’s makeup to barbering and nail art.
An impressive performance at last year’s Regional Heats saw the East Durham College team collect two firsts, two seconds and four thirds, as well as a number of other placed students, which all resulted in the College grabbing the coveted Best College Award for 2011.
Simon Smith, Curriculum Leader for Hair and Beauty at the College, said: “The students are very exited and looking forward to defending their title. They have been working really hard, taking part in special competition preparation classes to get ready for the event. I wish them the best of luck.”
