The state-of-the-art spray system demonstrated to the students applies one layer of Sheetrock Prospray Skimming Compound and a top coat of Sheetrock Tuffhide Primer Surfacer so the wall is finished in a fraction of the time when using traditional methods.

Education Manager at The Academy Rob Hutchinson said: “We are delighted to have developed this new partnership with USG, and it will be really beneficial for the students to learn about their products and equipment some of which is currently not covered by the core curriculum.”

In return for providing the students with the masterclasses USG will be able to use the Technical Academies facility to run demos for a number of their key customers, who include the ESH group, Robert McAlpine, Keir and Balfour Beatty.

Chicago-based USG is a leading producer of innovative products and systems to the construction industry. As the inventor of wallboard and mineral wool ceiling tile, USG created North America's building materials industry. Their products are used in everything from major commercial developments and residential housing to simple home improvements.

Michael Anderson, Business Development Manager, based at USG’s Peterlee site, added: “We have already been donating some supplies to the College but are delighted to be working more closely.

“It was great that the students could learn about the new technologies that they will encounter once they enter the world of work.”

The Technical Academy is located in a 37,000 sq. ft. purpose-built facility and offers a high quality training environment in a range of construction trades including plastering, tiling, gas, electric and fitted interiors.
