This year all of East Durham College’s Level 3 students in the Hair and Beauty Departments are wearing uniforms featuring The Haven Pink Ribbon logo for Breast Cancer Support. The logo is embroidered on the sleeve of the students’ special edition black tunics with cerise pink trim.
The tunics are supplied by leading salonwear specialist Salonwear Direct, who donate £2 to The Haven Breast Cancer Support charity for each one purchased. As a result, the College team have helped raise over £150 for the charity so far.
Carol Williams, Hairdressing Technician, explains: “It was a joint team decision to use this company mainly because they were supporting The Haven Breast Cancer Support Campaign. Several of our team have previously taken part in the Race For Life, so we thought it was a good idea to continue to support breast cancer charities in this innovative way.”
Salonwear Direct are proud to support the breast cancer support charity. The Haven, whose patron is HRH The Prince of Wales, remains the only charity that promotes integrated healthcare specifically designed to support people through their breast cancer treatment.
“Everyone who has seen this tunic loves it - the pink embroidered ribbon looks chic and has such a positive meaning behind it.” says Ilan Sherman, Managing Director at Salonwear Direct. “We knew that the Haven tunic would be popular with our customers, but the response has still surprised us!”
Salonwear Direct, based in Meanwood Leeds, recently presented the charity with a cheque for over £6,500 from sales of the tunic.
Jane King, Yorkshire Community Fundraiser at The Haven, added: “We’re overwhelmed with the response the tunic has generated among professional and colleges across the UK. As well as raising much needed funds, the sale of the tunic will raise awareness of The Haven to a whole new audience.”
