Surprise Guest Visits College's Enterprise Academy

Yesterday students at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at East Durham College had a surprise guest drop in at their unit at Dalton Park shopping centre.

Well almost, a life-size cut-out of the academy’s founder, Peter Jones, stopped by for photos with the first intake of students on the courses.

But come the end of the academic year the students will be getting set to meet the successful entrepreneur for real when they attend their end of year graduation where Peter Jones will be in attendance for real.

And course lecturer Jill Campbell believes her class had fun with the visit from the cardboard Peter Jones but knows the students are now hard back at work to make sure they successfully complete their course so they get to meet the man himself.

Jill said: “It was a fun morning as the students stood for photos with Mr Jones, even if he was a little bit quiet.

“The students have worked really hard over the last few months since starting at the academy and they will be looking to keep up this high standard of work before they meet the real Peter Jones at the end of year graduation and awards ceremony.”

The Level 3 Diploma in Understanding Enterprise and Entrepreneurship course at the new Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, East Durham College, started back in September and is the only course of its kind running in County Durham.

The programme gives a vibrant mix of theoretical and practical skills. This includes classes covering sales, marketing and finance - with the added opportunity for internships, work placement and students’ developing their own businesses.
