East Durham College floristry students baked up a bronze award for their floristry display at this year’s Harrogate Flower Show.
The students took part in the college’s competition category at the famous flower show. And this year the category saw students have to create a ‘High Street Shop Front’ design.
So the creative students, from the Durham-based Houghall Campus, decided to put together a bakery-themed design, with floral cupcakes, biscuits and even a wedding cake.
The display stand they used was also made in-house at the College, with students and staff from the College’s Technical Academy coming together to create the stand.
East Durham College Floristry lecturer Sue Lee praised the students’ work on the display and also the high quality of work put together on the designs in the category.
Sue said: “The students worked really hard on the idea for the design and on the individual pieces themselves to make this award winning display.
“There was a host of great displays and ideas shown by students from around the country in the category, and it showed just how strong the standard of floristry education is nationwide.
“It was such a great event to be a part of and also for the students to visit and look around to get ideas for future displays they put together.
“A big thanks must go to Rob Hutchinson and the team at the Technical Academy who helped to build the stand for our display to go on.”
