An East Durham College equine lecturer is set to take to the saddle this summer to represent Team GB at the Horseball World Championships.

College lecturer, Felicity Evens, will be taking part in the international competition, which takes place between 14th to 20th August in Ponte de Lima, Portugal.

This will be the third FIHB Horseball World Cup to take place and this year will be the whole tournament will be streamed live online for the first time.

Horseball is a game played on horseback where a ball is handled and points are scored by shooting it through a hoop. The sport is like a combination of polo, rugby; and basketball. It is one of the ten disciplines officially recognised by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.

The team are now looking to raise money for the trip to, the tournament and are selling raffle tickets with the winner becoming the teams sponsor for the tournament.

Felicity is proud to have been chosen to represent the Team GB ladies team once again and can’t wait to take part in this summer’s tournament.

Felicity said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me, it is a real honour to be able to represent your country in any discipline.

“Horseball is a really exciting sport and I can wait to get out there and take part this summer.

“There are some really great teams attending the tournament this year but we will go in confident and work as hard as we can to bring home the trophy for Great Britain.”
