Last week East Durham College’s Technical Academy hosted its annual trade exhibition event at its site in Peterlee.

A wide range of construction and building service companies attended the event to give demonstrations of their latest product innovations.

Over 20 companies exhibited products at the event including Wates Living Space, Rubi, CTD, Wedi, Raychem, Weber, Genesis, BAL, RG Developments, CSkills, La Farge, USG, Gliderol, Caterpillar, Stabila, Makita, Precision Geometrics Ltd, Baxi, Seaward and Keepmoat.

Rob Hutchinson, Education and Centre Manager at the Academy, believes that these events are a fantastic opportunity for the students and provides them with a fantastic way to learn.

Rob said: “The aim of this event was to give our students an amazing opportunity to learn about some of the latest products, techniques and building methods being used in the industry.

“These types of events are invaluable; they really help to enhance the learners training and raise their aspirations.”

Part of East Durham College, The Technical Academy is located in a 30,000 sq. Ft. purpose-built facility on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate. A wide range of courses in the construction industry are on offer at the site including plastering, tiling, gas, electric and fitted interiors.

And companies who got involved with the day hope to see their relationship with the College continue to grow and give students better opportunities to train in real working environments.

Joanne Jamieson, Regional Managing Director with Wates Living Space, added: “I’m delighted to see our relationship with East Durham College go from strength to strength as we continue to support the College in the creation of training opportunities for its young people.

“We look forward to collaboratively developing further work experience programmes to help prepare the students for the world of work."
