A new mosaic has been unveiled at a housing project in Gateshead that has been created by students from East Durham College’s Technical Academy.
Tiling students from the Technical Academy have been working on the project for Gateshead Housing Company to create a mosaic to go on display in the Beacon Lough area of Gateshead.
The design for the mosaic came from a pastel drawing by a local resident of the area.
And with help from CTD Tiles the work has been completed by the East Durham College students and has now been delivered to the Gateshead Housing Group ready to be fitted into place at the site.
Jane Brownlee, estate officer for Gateshead Housing Company praised the work by the students on the project.
Jane said: “The final mosaic looks great and gives a warm welcome to the main entrance.
“We are really impressed by the workmanship that has gone into it by the students from The Technical Academy.
“A huge thanks goes to both the students and CTD Tiles for making the project happen.
“We hope this isn’t the last time we work in partnership with The Technical Academy.”
Resident from the Beacon Lough area, Mary Hawthorne, loves how the mosaic has turned out and can’t wait to see it fixed in pride of place at the site.
Mary said: “It was great to see the mosaic completed, it’s a brilliant piece of work.
“You can tell the students have put a lot of work into it and it will brighten up the area once it is put in place.”
Part of East Durham College, The Technical Academy is located in a 30,000 square feet purpose-built facility on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate. A wide range of construction courses are on offer including plastering, tiling, gas, electric and fitted interiors.
