East Durham College Student Tia Laidlaw recently won the Health and Social Care Award at the College’s February Student Awards ceremony.

Tia, aged 17 from Peterlee, is studying on a Level 3 Health and Social Care course.

Head of Health and Social Care Paula Kirton said: “Tia uses her own initiative and can work independently without support.  She has recently handed in Merit and Distinction grades prior to them being taught and achieved a Distinction for the piece of work.  She is a very motivated, dedicated and passionate person and will make an excellent nurse as her career aim.

“Tia is a pleasure to teach she is always on time to classes and ready to learn.  She can work as part of a team as well as independently and is also a generally all round nice person.  If she carries on in the same way throughout the two year course she will achieve D*D*D* which is a fantastic grade. I look forward to working with Tia over the next two years with great optimism as she is a student to look out for.”
