A Travel & Tourism student has been praised for her effort and talent at a recent student awards ceremony.

Kelly Clarkson, aged 17 from Peterlee, was one of 10 students who recently picked up a Student of the Month Award at East Durham College.

Kelly enrolled on to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism back in September as she really wants to work abroad.

“I’d love to get up to go out to work in a sunny climate,” said Kelly.

She went on to say: “I really like my course, I like to learn new things and the trips out are amazing. My lecturer Mandy is great, she’s always there when we need help, even when I’m emailing her on Saturdays to ask questions!”

Kelly has already completed 10 out of the 12 units needed to finish the course and 8 of those have received Distinction grades.

Mandy Sert, Travel and Tourism Lecturer at the College, added: “Kelly could well be looking at achieving an overall Distinction Star grade, the highest grade achievable and she would be the first ever student in the department to receive it.

What a fantastic reward this would be for all her hard work. She’s an absolute pleasure to teach. Well done Kelly.”
