Last night ITV Superstar contestant Jon Moses put on a very special gig at East Durham College’s Lubetkin Theatre.
Jon gained TV fame when he got to the live shows of the ITV competition which saw musical supremo Andrew Lloyd-Webber search for the lead role of Jesus Christ to star in an arena tour of his highly rated musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
And last night the 28-year-old returned to his hometown to perform to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).
Jon has had first hand experience of the disease as his three sisters all contracted meningitis back in 1995.
“This was the most terrifying time of my life, nearly losing three sisters within 24 hours,” Jon said.
Jon’s show at The Lubetkin Theatre attracted an audience of over 100 people and he is thankful that people have come out to show their support for the cause.
“The ticket sales were fantastic and it was a fantastic show. It’s great to see people come out and support this great cause and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did,” Jon added.
And Jon praised the College for their help in organising the show and the quality of the facilities at the Peterlee-based college.
Jon said: “The Lubetkin Theatre is a fantastic venue. The acoustics in the theatre especially are fantastic which is brilliant for a singer.
“It’s such a privilege to have a brilliant venue such as The Lubetkin Theatre available to use in my hometown.”
Dianne Weir, Event Co-ordinator, added: “We are delighted to be able to host such a high profile event. We’re very keen to help push all aspects of performing arts in the county and the theatre is a wonderful facility to do that, it’s here to benefit the whole community.”
