East Durham College student Samantha Carter recently won the Uniformed Public Services Award at the College’s May Student Awards ceremony.
Samantha, 17, from Trimdon, is studying on a Level 3 Subsidiary in Public Services.
Samantha's Tutor Liz Peary said: "Sam’s attendance is 99.54% with excellent punctuality. She is fully up to date with all written work and shows determination to do well with her work and works hard to achieve good results in her assignments.
"Sam is a good team player, has worked hard at team tasks throughout the course and works well in a group in and out of class. Sam has been a hardworking and dedicated student throughout the year. She manages to juggle her studies with her commitments to the female football team where she plays in goal. She comes in to college to play matches even on days where she has no academic studies.
"Sam has overcome some personal challenges to succeed on the course this year and has pushed herself to not only obtain the subsidiary diploma qualification but to go on to complete the 90 credit diploma which will lead to her studying for the extended diploma next year. Sam is a good role model for other students and demonstrates that despite personal challenges it is possible to achieve with determination and tenacity".
