Uniformed Public Services
These courses aim to prepare students for entry into the uniformed or public services and also provide a great route into higher education.
Uniformed and Public Services includes the Armed Services, HM Customs and Excise, Police, Fire Service, Security Service, Prison Service, Ambulance, Paramedics, Rescue Services and the Coast Guard.
Job roles could include:
- A Police Officer
- An Air Traffic Controller in the Royal Air Force
- A Firefighter
- A Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy
- A Royal Marine Commando
- A Paramedic
- And many, many more...
Lessons are classroom based but also include a range of practical outdoor activities and visits. You will develop important skills, such as teamwork and leadership, and have the opportunity to use these in the field
Quality Teaching & Training
We will guarantee you 11 hours of quality teaching and training per week with our specialist lecturer, a former uniformed public service officer, and our qualified outdoor activity and sports instructors who will prepare you physically to join a service.
In order to develop your team working and practical skills you will also experience activities such as mountain walking, orienteering, archery, mountain biking, caving, kayaking and canoeing.
Visits & Activities
You will also have the chance to visit the public services at their place of work and see what they do on a day-to-day basis. You should have the opportunity to visit:
- A Royal Air Force Base
- A Navy Ship
- Various Police Departments
- A Fire Station
- An Army Base for a week long residential ‘look at life’ course
You will take part in 36 hours of real work experience during the year, working with and learning about the work of the public services.
You can choose if you wish to study for one year on a diploma course or stay for a second year and get the best qualification you can – an extended diploma. Our two year course is equivalent to three A Levels and is a proven route into university or employment.
