Fri, 31/01/2020 - 13:57
We've produced this guidance for staff and students who may be concerned about the ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China.
The number of confirmed cases is around 4500. Two people from the same family have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, the chief medical officer for England has announced (Fri 31st Jan). It is understood the patients were staying in a hotel in Yorkshire, before being taken overnight to a specialist centre in Newcastle.
Coronavirus causes respiratory illness. The symptoms include:
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
The latest advice from Public Health England is:
Anybody who has travelled from Wuhan within the last fourteen days - whether displaying signs of illness or not- is advised to:
- Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people
- Remain at home for 14 days after arriving from Wuhan and not to go to any classes, place of work, or any social events
Anyone with coughs or colds should always cover their mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing, throw used tissues away and wash their hands with soap and water to help prevent the spread of infection.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update this page with additional information as required.
