Hairdressing Student Annabelle Turner and X Factor Star Amelia Lily

Amelia Lily, finalist from last year’s X-factor series, visited East Durham College in Peterlee today.

The Middlesbrough-born singer, 17, was on a well earned break following a hectic period of gigging and recording her first album, and called into the College’s hair and beauty salon to have her hair done.

Amelia had her hair coloured, blow-dried and styled by hairdressing student and friend Annabelle Turner.

Annabelle, 18, from Thornley, who studies on a Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing, has been great friends with Amelia since they were 8, after they met at ice skating lessons in Billingham.

When asked about the college and the salon, Amelia said: “I was well impressed! I was surprised it’s like a proper professional salon and the college is great.

“As I left school at 16 I’ve never been in a college before and I got a real surprise - it’s just how I’d image a US High School – really big and bright and modern.”

In X-Factor series 8, Amelia blew the judges away in her first audition, with Piece of My Heart by Etta James, eventually making it all the way through to the final where she finished third.

Amelia’s debut single is out this summer and she will be headlining at the Peterlee Show in September.
